• EMS EDUCATION PROGRAM

Our Advanced EMS Education Program offers online and onsite initial and refresher courses taught according to the National EMS Education Standards and exceed all requirements of the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Course Formats

We use a hybrid format for our EMS eCADEMY courses which are designed to allow students to complete coursework online and limiting the number of times they must attend a breakout segment in person at one of our Texas locations.

We offer a traditional course format through our EMS Academy that requires the participant to be present during the entire instructor-led course.  We offer these courses to groups, organizations or departments.

Our Locations

To better serve our students, we offer two Texas locations where students can attend their Skill Training segments.  We have locations in Amarillo and Forney.

Host a Course

Organizations or departments may prefer to host a traditional course at their location.  We are happy to offer this option through our EMS Academy to groups, organizations or departments who have a group of ten or more participants.  Contact us about hosting a closed course.

EMS Education Program Overview

Courses in our EMS Education Program are structured into comprehensive segments: online coursework, hands-on skill training, and clinical experiences for certain courses. Upon completion, participants will be equipped with the necessary skills to start a career in EMS. For additional information about EMS, resources are available at the National Registry of EMTs, the NHTSA, or the Texas Department of State Health Services.

1: Coursework Segment

The core of the program is the online learning platform where the student will learn the didactic material for the course.  In addition to the robust content on the platform, students will be able to schedule one-on-one tutoring sessions with an experienced instructor should they need any additional help.  Students have access to nationally standardized practice exams to prepare them for the National Registry of EMTs cognitive examination.

2: Skill Training Segment

All courses in our EMS Education Program require students to participate in a hands-on skill training lab.  This training is conducted throughout the course during the breakout segments.  Students will be shown psychomotor skills by experienced instructors and will have the opportunity to learn and practice them, receive feedback on their performance, and then demonstrate proficiency in each skill prior to beginning the Clinical Experiences Segment.

3: Clinical Experiences Segment

To finish the EMT or AEMT course, students must obtain hands-on experience by participating in clinical rotations in hospitals and with EMS providers.  This gives the student the opportunity to put their skills and knowledge to practice through contact with real patients, while being supervised by experienced medical professionals.  The number of clinical hours required depends on which course the student is enrolled in.

EMS Education Program Courses

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Emergency Medical Responders have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Emergency Medical Responders s also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport.  Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response.  Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation.  AEMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight.  AEMTs perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance.  The AEMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
